Applications
Feb. 12th, 2007 02:46 pmI hate applications to jobs. I mean really why do they ask these questions to "Tell about a time you were stressed out and how you coped?" kind-of crap. I mean first of all you think anyone is really honest in these things. I'm more stressed out trying to answer these questions because in truth they are pointless. The only way you will really know an employee is to see them work or get first hand experience of them working.
I've never been good at these questions though probably because I don't dwell on them. The stressful situation especially in retail are basically someone being an ass and how to avoid pissing them off even more so they don't call your manager. I mean we have set rules we typically have to follow even though some are not very customer friendly. That and afterwards I'd much rather forget the event then try to "learn" something from it. Events like that you don't learn from especially if they are daily occurances, not that they were but there is always an unhappy customer in the stores just looking to get pissed off at something and no matter how much you do to "appease" them they will still go off on you.
And then of course teamwork questions. If you are working typically you are doing so with a team, I got that. But if you are in retail everything you do is teamwork. Going to work is teamwork.
Okay so retail has made me a bit bitter. Why do you think I am working temp jobs to get experience (like all the different things in retail don't give me experience in whole other fields).
I hate these questions though because they are so personal yet at the very same time so impersonal. They are generic beyond the generic and as I said before offer no incite on how the employee will actually work.
Bah, I just hate this crap.
Just job hunting in general makes me pissed. I have 12 years experience in retail dealing with a whole hell of a lot more shit than people stuck in offices sitting at their computers all day who barely have anything to do and I never made it up to ten an hour until I into temping. I mean yes retail anyone can do but so can half the jobs out there that require degrees or experience.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
Okay I think I let enough steam off and will get back to trying to figure out what bullshit to put down in these answers.
